Who is the Captain?
The Captain is the newly appointed head of the A.C.D. — the Anti-Chaos Directorate task force, and the character you play from the first minutes of ANANTA. The story opens with the Captain arriving in Nova City into a bad situation: the organisation is falling apart, a Maniac Chaos incident gridlocks the city, and the whole thing ends up online. Going viral by accident is what starts the reputation loop that drives progression.
Both male and female versions of the Captain appear in official material. See the main character guide for what is and is not confirmed about that choice.
Combat style
The Captain's kit is deliberately the most balanced in the roster and functions as the game's tutorial baseline. In practice that means:
- Melee-first, using the shared two-button core — attack and block/counter — with contextual finishers once an enemy's stamina breaks.
- Environmental weapons. Everything on the street is a candidate: trash cans, golf clubs, chairs, guitars, cleavers, cars. You can also disarm enemies and keep fighting with their weapons.
- Firearms through a weapon wheel, covering pistols, assault rifles, snipers, flamethrowers, grenade launchers and RPGs. The Captain is shown using all of it, from improvised props to guns.
On PS5 as demonstrated at Tokyo Game Show 2025: R1 attacks, L1 blocks and counters, R1 + X vaults and parries, and a thumbstick click triggers a contextual finisher on a stunned enemy.
The switching hub
The most important thing about the Captain mechanically is not the moveset — it is that the Captain is the anchor for seamless character switching inside missions. ANANTA is not a game where you return to a hub to change characters; you swap between squad members during the action, and each has independent storylines, a day job and a separate progression path.
That makes the Captain less of a specialised pick and more of the connective tissue. You start as the Captain, recruit the others, and then move between them depending on what the situation calls for.
How the Captain progresses
The Captain's progression is tied to the influencer reputation system — the "Go Viral. Save the World." pillar. What you do in the city builds a following, and that following converts into resources, access and perks. This is the only progression path confirmed in detail for the Captain, as opposed to the day-job paths confirmed for other characters.
